To make an appointment to see Dr John Roe you require a referral from your GP or medical doctor. You should also bring along any relevant imaging including X-ray, CT, US and MRI. A list of your current medications should also be included.
Why do I need a referral?
You will need to bring a current referral to enable your consultation fee to be claimed through Medicare. This is a strict requirement of Medicare and consequently your health fund or insurer. Medicare specifies that a referral from a General Practitioner covers your visit for 12 months and a referral from a specialist doctor lasts for 3 months.
What fees are payable for consultation in the rooms?
There is a fee to see Dr Roe in his rooms. Consultation fees are payable at the end of your consultation. The standard fee charged is a proportion of the Australian Medical Association recommended fee. This means that in most instances there will be a portion of your consultation fee, which will not be covered by Medicare. The rebate from Medicare for eligible patients is $72.75 for the first consultation and $36.55 for each subsequent consultation.
How are surgical fees calculated?
In most cases there will be an out-of-pocket component to the surgical fees. Fees for surgical procedures and operations in most instances are partially covered by Medicare and your private health insurance. The standard fee charged is proportion of the Australian
Medical Association recommended fee.
Generally Medicare and your private health insurance will pay for a substantial part of the surgical fee, but in many cases there will be a GAP. A quote covering the proposed fees will be issued after you have discussed the details of the recommended procedure with Dr. Roe.
If there is a problem with these fees please discuss with our friendly staff who will help you navigate your way through the informed financial consent.
Other expected fees?
Anaesthetist, physiotherapy, splints or braces.
